S4 LIGHT-WEIGHT 4-PISTON CALIPER
The all-new S4 caliper benefits from four molybdenum-coated machined aluminum pistons for smooth repositioning and easy assembly, heat shield insulation and bleed port and adapter technology for simple bleeding.
SWINGLINK™
Squeeze the new SRAM brake lever and you'll see the difference straight away. A reduced dead zone. More positive skate activation. A new cam system requires less lever deflection to push the pads toward the rotor. This is very good, but the power is not enough to perfect the braking performance. You need control. Many brake systems reduce the dead zone, but at the expense of modulation. SwingLink solves this dilemma thanks to the special shape of its cam. When the pads contact the rotor, the power is modulated, preventing that “on/off” feeling of the brake. It’s the perfect balance of power and precision.
TIMING PORT CLOSURE
The timing port of a hydraulic brake is the connection between the reservoir and the main cylinder bore. When you press the brake, a cup seal passes through this area and closes the port, pressurizing the system. SRAM's new timing port closure system, TPC Plus, features durable seals and an ultra-smooth cylinder bore finish, for more powerful and consistent braking.
CONTACT POINT ADJUSTMENT
Some people like the instant power of a short lever ratio. Others prefer the feel of a longer gear. With the contact point adjustment, you can choose the position of your fingers when braking. It's a quick and easy way to customize the feel of your brakes without having to move the pads. This is also a way to balance both brake levers to feel the exact same sensation.
POWER RESERVE GEOMETRY
At the end of the day, a brake lever multiplies the force your hand generates (just like a nutcracker). Avid's Power Reserve Geometry™ is its own way of designing the physics of the lever and the comfort of your hands. This philosophy is radically different from others in the brake market. Due to pivot placement, physics shows that with other brake levers your fingers tend to slip at the ends when you pull. Avid is different. We designed our levers with the pivot closer to the handlebars, closer than anyone else has ever dared on the market. This helps reduce the lever's inside travel and creates an arc that naturally contours to your fingers, allowing you to provide greater stopping power. The great thing is that all Avid levers have them.
